                                Columbus Day

We the U.S celebrate Columbus Day the commemorates of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the new world on October 12, 1492. We celebrate it on the second day on Monday in October each year. Unofficially it was celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century. This did not become a federal holiday until the 1937. The first celebration took place in 1792 when New York Columbian order-better known as Tammany hall-held an event of commemorate the historic landings 300th anniversary. In 1992 has been marked as the 500th anniversary of Columbus discovery. In 1869, when the Italians of San Francisco celebrated October 12 they called it Columbus Day.

Reflection: this holiday is actually both honoring Columbus Day for the achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage.
