St. Patrick’s
Day
Every year
on March 17, we celebrate the Irish culture with parades, dancing, special
foods and a whole lot of green. This is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick
AD 385-461, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. On St Patrick Day we have to
wear shamrocks or green clothing or accessories, because St Patrick said to
have used shamrocks to represent the tree-leave plant to explain the Holy Trinity
to the pagan Irish. The color green has been associated with Ireland since the
1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confirmation
green ribbons and shamrocks have been worn on St Patrick’s Day since 1680s.
